PlayAround10 is the third edition of an intensely parallel and collaborative workshop of mediating the creative use of FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) and DIY practices to an audience of emerging artist of diverse backgrounds. It combines the knowledge creation and open distribution of new media technologies and contemporary art practices in a socially responsible and relevant context.

Please read following notes carefully :


This 5 days intensive workshop includes regular session (daily 10am - 6pm), group project, as well a final mini presentation entitled "OpenField". Before you apply, please consider the probability of daily attendance between 9th to 13th of AUG, 2010. If you can only take parts of participation, we would like you to reconsider to give the chance to others. A limit of 80 funded seats which included lecture fee and creative pack (module materiels and common equipment). International participant's travel expense are not funded, however, international participant's lodgement and lunch are hosted by playaround. Local participant's travel, lodgement and lunch are not funded.

Participants should bring along a laptop, regardless its operating system, could be either Linux, OSX or Windows, and it should have a a working sound and graphic card, perhaps a pair of headphone would be also a good idea.

  • Deposit : 2000 NTD (approx. 65 USD, or 45 EURO)
    • Online applicant do not need to pay anything at this stage, it is due when applicant receive confirmation letter from playaround, and confirm his/her attendance.
    • your place would be only reservered when deposit is received by playaround.
    • Deposit applied for the mean of sharing resource, make sure no one is wasting it.
    • If cancellation and absent occurred with a reasonable notice, deposit will be reimbursed after the last day of workshop.
    • When cancellation before or /and absent during the workshop without an actual reason, deposit will not be reimbursed.
  • All participants are covered by public liability & accident insurance.
  • By filling out the online application form, your personal data would only be used to contact by workshop team and workshop related documentation. Participant's name and personal www page would be published at playaround.cc.
  • The characteristics of playaround10 workshop involved software programming, patching, thinking out of box, and a co-operative attitudes, therefore a reservated seat would first open to anyone with an interest on New Media Art, FLOSS, Art, Soundscape, Design, Mass Communication, Information Technology, Bioscience, Physics, Architecture, Humanities, Engineering. It is more than welcome for whom are interested in transdisciplinary, co-operative artwork.
  • We would like to reserve a quota of 40 seats out of total 80 seats for NTUA Students.
  • Participant should create a co-operative work with other emerging artists during workshop, all rights belong to participant and his/her team, playaround is supporting Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.5 Taiwan (external link).
  • The final list included total 80 of funded seats and 2 candidates of each modules, each individual would be informed by email togehter with personal confirmation letter. (very important to leave us the email you check the most, early notice to playaround is necessary if you need confirmation letter to send by postal address in order to handling your visa procedure)
  • All candidates are kindly asked to read module outline carefully before applying. (Mentor may update outline irregularly, this happen very often!!)
  • After receiving confirmation from us, please download appropriated/associated application/software according to one's attending module.
  • playaround reserved the right assiging module upon applicant's first and second choices.

  • step 4 > read module outline & download needed FLOS(S)oftware

Condition

  • International and Taiwan Emerging Artists
    • workshop are free of charges.
    • Local participants need to find their resources for covering travel cost and/ or accommodation. An official confirmation/invitation letter would be issued in means of assisting you to require absent from work or study.
    • To cancel your attendance after receiving confimration letter please "do" inform playaround as soon as possbile, so we can give your seat to others on the waiting list.
    • One can not change attending module during workshop.


  • NTUA student
    • current enrolled NTUA students please NTUA student form respecitively.
    • workshop are free of charges
    • NTUA student need to find their resources for covering travel cost and/ or accommodation. An official confirmation/invitation letter would be issued in means of assisting you to require absent from work or study. (please contact NTUA Art Museum for farther questions)
    • To cancel your attendance after receiving confimration letter please "do" inform playaround as soon as possbile, so we can give your seat to others on the waiting list.
    • One can not change attending module during workshop.

  • Teaching Assistant or Volunteers
    • Each module need one warm hearted Teaching Assistant (With English module, one need to able to communicate and translate in English), with payment.
    • Few Admin & Technical Volunteers, no paid.
    • Website maintainance, update and audiovisual database Volunteers, no paid.
